Program History
The Master’s Program in Graphic Design Main Art Discipline at Akdeniz University Graduate School of Fine Arts was established in 2002 within the Graduate School of Social Sciences with the aim of educating specialized artists, designers, and researchers in the field of graphic design. In 2007, the program was transferred to the Graduate School of Fine Arts and has continued its graduate education activities within this structure.
The Graphic Design Main Art Discipline adopts an educational approach that integrates the theoretical and practical dimensions of graphic design. The program contributes to the development of individuals who follow contemporary art and design approaches, produce original design solutions, and conduct research and creative production processes comprehensively.
Program Objectives and Goals
The rapid developments in communication technologies today have led to the diversification of visual communication tools and the continuous transformation of graphic design as a dynamic discipline. In this context, the primary aim of the Graphic Design Main Art Discipline is to educate designers and researchers who possess a contemporary design perspective, are capable of creative and critical thinking, can analyze visual communication processes, follow social, cultural, and technological transformations, and develop innovative solutions to design problems.
The program aims to enable students to acquire theoretical knowledge in the field of graphic design, apply scientific research methods, analyze and interpret acquired knowledge, and develop original design practices. In addition, students are encouraged to conduct studies in areas such as typography, visual communication design, editorial design, digital design, corporate identity, and experimental graphic design through contemporary approaches.
Graduates of the Master’s Program in Graphic Design Main Art Discipline may work as graphic designers, art directors, visual communication designers, corporate identity specialists, or design consultants in graphic design studios, advertising agencies, publishing houses, media organizations, and various public or private sector institutions.
Graduates may also establish their own design studios as independent designers and continue their individual artistic and design practices on national and international platforms. Students who pursue an academic career may continue their education in Doctoral or Proficiency in Art programs and conduct academic studies at higher education institutions.
